The Dodos- Confidence

We’re back with the indie sound gents! This track comes from the Dodos, a group out of of San Francisco that has been on our collective radar here at DYG for a while, notably from their 2009 hit “Fables”. They’ve undergone a recent change in their sound, and no where is that made more clear than in their new single “Confidence”. “Confidence” is a song that increases in intensity, it builds slowly, climbing towards a fantastic and frenzied climax. If you like the single, check out the rest of their album “Carrier” on iTunes.

Alesso ft. Matthew Koma- Years

A little throwback Thursday for you gents, Alesso exploded a few years back partly behind the momentum provided by this mega hit. Fantastic once the drops hits. If you don’t know, now you know.

The Saddle Shoe

Gents, I present to you the saddle shoe. A current staple of the fashion forward wardrobe, the saddle shoe takes confidence to pull off. They are designed not to blend seamlessly with an outfit but to stand out, to be a statement of their own. Saddle shoes are a casual shoe, a low cut oxford that we do not recommend mixing in to your formal wear unless you have an unusually impressive pair. They do serve to spruce up any casual outfit, dressing up almost anything and endowing their wearer with a certain measure of flair.

The saddle shoe works with complimentary colors: lightsaddleAnd with a single color:band-of-outsiders-5-hole-saddle-shoes-selectism-0

Kings of Leon- Wait For Me

The Followill’s are back with their second single off their upcoming album Mechanical Bull. “Wait For Me” has been on repeat lately here at the DYG headquarters and you gents would do well to follow suit, this is a great song and a promise of more to come when Kings finally drop their album in a few weeks.

Cigar Review: Oliva Serie O

The Gentleman recently got his hands on an Oliva Serie O, continuing his recent trend of sampling the best reviewed cigars under ten dollars. The Serie O has received more than solid reviews this year and for good reason, this is another quality value buy for all you young gents out there with a budget. This stoge draws easily and produces a lot of smoke, good tasting smoke at that. It’s unapologetic in it’s strong tobacco taste, complimented with tones of spice and cedar among other things. The Oliva Serie O is Gentleman approved.

Post War Years- All Eyes

We here at the Dapper Young Gentleman are borderline omnipresent on music blogs but sometimes we find music the old fashioned way, watching an old episode of Top Gear. In the first episode of Season 19 Richard Hammond is speeding around in a Pagani Huayra while the Post War Years’ “All Eyes” is playing in the background. The Post War Years are a London based alternative group who have really been picking up steam lately, driven primarily by this single from their last album. Check it out and tell us what you think in the comments.

The Wingtip Shoe

mctavish-WING-TIP-SHOESProperly referred to as brogues, the wingtip shoe brings a little classic English haberdashery to your style. Paired with the right pair of pants, a nice pair of wingtips can really make the difference for a gentleman’s look. They help bring an air of sophistication, effectively separating you from the less remarkable gentleman around you. We here at the Dapper Young Gentleman highly recommend you gents add a pair of wingtips to your shoe game, and if you need a place to start we’ve got you.

If money isn’t an issue you can find an incredible pair of To Boot New York Windsor Brogues at Nordstrom here:

If you’re a gent with a budget you can find quality wingtips at Aldo for more affordable prices here:

The next time you walk in to work or the bar or whatever it is you’re doing, do so in style. Do so in a pair of wingtips.

Porter Robinson- Language

Better late than never on this one gents! This is Porter Robinson’s anthem that tore up the summer festivals and we decided it would be simply criminal not to post it. Without further ado…..

Brew Review- Newcastle Mini-Keg

Those of you that are familiar with us may have noticed our fascination (bordering on obsession) with mini-kegs, they’re stylish, they’re cost-effective, and most importantly, beer tastes best on tap. No beer we’ve reviewed here has exemplified that last bit more than Newcastle Brown Ale. Where from a bottle or can the chocolate and nutty undertones that typify Newcastle can certainly be detected, from the keg that distinctive taste comes to the forefront, the difference is significant. This is a tasty beer, not one to get drunk off of necessarily but a beer to be enjoyed. In our experience Newcastle mini-kegs can be found at almost all liquor stores for between $20 and $25. This beer is for beer drinkers, and here at the Dapper Young Gentleman we highly recommend it.

Lana Del Rey- Summertime Sadness (Cedric Gervais Remix)

Cedric Gervais has been on fire all summer and it’s about time we here at the Dapper Young Gentleman give him the recognition he’s longed for since we started this site. Gervais took two of Lana Del Rey’s hits and made them instant classics. The first here is Summertime Sadness, the dark brooding vocals typical of Lana Del Rey’s work are a perfect complement for Gervais’ more upbeat style.

Here’s similar fare:

With “Things Can Only Get Better” Gervais adds his personal touch to Howard Jones’ 80′s mega hit. This one is a feel good jam.
